  • Be an example

You are a role model to your child and they will imitate you at every stage. So, as a parent, if you practise good oral health by brushing and flossing daily, then they will also.
  • Choose a friendly dentist

Selecting a friendly dentist is crucial as they have to make your child comfortable. Only then will your child willingly visit them without force.
  • Take them for regular checkups

Your child’s dentist will ask you to bring them to the dental clinic once every six months for cleanings and checkups. The dentist will be able to detect oral health issues like cavities in their initial stages, avoiding costly procedures later on. These visits will also familiarize child with the pediatric dentist.
  • Remind them to brush for two minutes

Regular brushing is the key to a good oral health. But, brushing for a few seconds won’t do much. Instead, make sure they brush for at least two minutes to ensure a good cleaning process is practiced. Encourage them to brush twice a day, once in the morning and once before going to bed.
  • Teach them how to properly brush

Teach them to tilt the bristles of the toothbrush towards the gums and brush in circles to touch and clean each tooth. Their hand should be at a 45 degree-angle while holding the brush. NOTE- Brushing back and forth with force can damage your child’s teeth and gums. So, make sure they strictly avoid this.
  • Teach them the importance of flossing

Flossing is another important activity that is part of good oral health. It will prevent gum diseases that can appear later in their lives. So, make sure your child uses a good floss to clean in between the teeth which can’t be done with just brushing. NOTE- They should floss at least once a day for better results.
  • Decrease their sugar intake

High sugar content in food and drinks can lead to cavities in teeth which is unhealthy. Replace sugary juice with fresh juices and control their chocolate and ice cream cravings. You can allow them to eat these items once in a while but, make sure they brush their teeth right after eating them. If you follow the above-listed tips, you can help your child practice good oral health.
