Orthodontics is a branch of dentistry concerned with the correction of an improper bite and tooth alignment. By improving the alignment and functioning of teeth, most patients experience an improved quality of life and more appealing esthetic appearance.
The general principles of orthodontic treatment indicate that the cusps of the teeth in the maxillary arch align within the appropriate and corresponding fossa’s/ grooves relationship with teeth in the opposing dentition in the lower arch. Orthodontic problems arising out of non-alignment of teeth is quite common. Sometimes the upper teeth extend much more over the lower teeth, resulting in a large overjet. The opposite wherein the lower jaw extends more forward than the upper jaw, is known as an anterior crossbite.
Orthodontic problems can arise at an early age in childhood when both the dental gingiva and teeth are still developing. Teeth that are poorly aligned may give rise to various dental problems. Some of these problems may include open spaces between teeth, irregular bite, higher risk of dentally related trauma and higher cavity risk to name a few. These can result in food impaction, inflamed and bleeding gums and general discomfort. It is because of such things, that the early detection, diagnosis and treatment of misaligned teeth is an essential preventative measure, with the initiation of orthodontic treatment being indicated for some patients as early as 7- 8 years of age.
Dentally related orthodontic problems are not just limited to children, and can commonly be found in adults also. Adults can also have crooked, misaligned teeth with irregular spaces between teeth. These can lead to a less appealing esthetic appearance, as well as functional abnormalities.
What is Invisalign?
Conventional orthodontic treatment usually involves the use of metal or ceramic orthodontic brackets. These are normally placed on the outer surface of teeth requiring orthodontic treatment. Though modern day braces are designed for minimal discomfort, for the greatest privacy, Invisalign orthodontics is the most inconspicuous – a new breakthrough in orthodontic technology. Invisalign orthodontics works through the use of plastic aligners and without the use of orthodontic wires or brackets. These are removable making regular brushing and flossing easier. With invisalign orthodontics, you can indulge in every kind of food, ranging from apples, popcorn, carrots, chips, pizza and more! What are the advantages of Invisalign Orthodontics?
How much does Invisalign cost?
The Invisalign orthodontic system is completely customized to your individual treatment goals. This makes it impossible to identify the exact cost associated with such treatment, as each individual treatment and the number of aligners may vary from patient to patient. Additional factors that affect invisalign orthodontic costs may include the complexity of dental problems from the onset, the severity of teeth crowding or spacing and the patient’s age to name a few. However, it may not necessarily be more expensive than conventional braces treatment. For patients that have dental insurance coverage, there may also be less out-of-pocket expense. We will do our best to work with your budget, to make orthodontic treatment affordable for you and your family. Contact our dental office, in Brampton, to learn how! What is the procedure followed for Invisalign?
Invisalign treatment requires a procedure that is both systematic and precise. Your overall dentition is first examined thoroughly, with dental impressions being taken and scanned, created and analyzed through a computer generated plan that has customized treatment. A virtual model of your teeth is created with the help of the impression and photos of your teeth (that are taken prior to starting treatment). A series of trays are made to slowly realign teeth into their improved positions. You can start wearing them as soon as these trays are delivered by the dentist. It takes a few days for people to get adjusted to these thin teeth coverings. Ideally, dental experts suggest Invisalign trays be worn for at least 22 hours a day for best results. The duration required for this treatment cannot be predicted because conditions vary from one patient to another. However, regular dental checkups and monitoring form a crucial part of your Invisalign treatment.
